Hemos comenzado la unidad 5 del libro de Ciencias de la
Naturaleza, que tiene por título
Matter and materials (“Materia y
materiales”), y en ella veremos:
·
Los
materiales principales: madera, cristal, plástico…
·
La
diferencia entre materiales naturales y materiales hechos por el hombre.
·
Las
principales propiedades de los materiales.
·
La
diferencia entre masa y volumen.
·
La
diferencia entre mezclas homogéneas y heterogéneas. Ejemplos en la vida real.
·
Los
cambios en la materia.
·
Los
estados físicos: sólido, líquido y gas.
·
Los
usos de los materiales.
Os adjunto el

Natural materials:
cotton, wool and stone.
Man-made materials: glass,
paper and plastic.
•

•
Does wood float on water or sink? Wood floats on water.
•
Name a material that floats/ sinks. For example: wood floats and stones
sink.
•
Why are windows made of glass? Because glass is transparent.
•
Say a properties of these materials: glass, rock, cotton, rubber and
metal:
Glass is transparent.
Rock is hard. Cotton is soft. Rubber is flexible. Metal is magnetic.
•
Is plastic waterproof? Yes, it is.
Is paper waterproof? No, it isn’t.
•
What type of mixtures are there? Heterogeneous mixtures and homogeneous
mixtures.
•
Name a homogeneous and a heterogeneous mixture. For example: chocolate
milk and pizza.
•
What are the three states of matter? Solid, liquid and gas.
•
To make ice, do we cool water or
heat it? We cool it.
•
When we ice skate, is the water solid or liquid? It’s solid.
